How to use it

Hands off matters more than chasing a score.

    Set the controller down

    Release both sticks completely on a stable surface. The sample is intended to observe center, not deliberate movement.

  2. 02

    Sample for five seconds

    Press Start 5-second sample and do not touch the controller until the result appears. The page records bounded numeric center offsets in memory only.

  3. 03

    Compare, do not diagnose

    Median shows typical center offset; 95% observed within shows most of the sample; maximum shows the largest browser-observed offset. Compare p95 with a deadzone you choose.

What the result means

Center offset is not the same as a universal drift verdict.

Games apply different deadzones, curves, filtering, and controller APIs. BeanNest therefore reports the browser-observed center distribution and lets you compare it with a neutral circle instead of declaring one threshold “good” or “bad.”

Why standard mapping is required

The browser's standard gamepad mapping defines the first four axes as left-stick X/Y and right-stick X/Y. On a non-standard controller, BeanNest refuses to guess which axis is which; use Gamepad Tester to inspect raw axes instead.

The sample stores only bounded numeric stick offsets in memory and clears them on Reset or when the page is left. Controller ID, axes, sample values, and results are not sent to analytics.

What does “95% observed within” mean?

It is the 95th-percentile radial distance from center during this five-second sample. Roughly 95% of recorded positions were at or below that distance.

Is 5% the correct deadzone for my game?

No. Five percent is only the initial comparison value. Use the game's own controls and feel when choosing a real gameplay deadzone.

Why won't a non-standard controller start?

Without standard mapping, the browser does not give BeanNest a reliable semantic promise that axes 0–3 are the two sticks. Guessing would make the result less trustworthy.

Can this test repair drift?

No. It observes input only. Cleaning, calibration, firmware, component replacement, and repair are outside this web page.
